NOTE: I had previously made updates to this article that resulted in missing words, phrases & sentences. You may notice some partial sentences. I am in the midst of rectifying this.

Group A - South Africa, France, Uruguay Mexico
Group A
South Africa, France, Uruguay Mexico
France
Looking at the teams that make up the group, it would be just too easy to say the French will qualify. It could get trickier than that A quick glance at World Cup historyy show that France have not enjoyed playing outside the European continent - the most recent in World Cup Korea-Japan 2002 where they went early without even scoring a single goal. They barely made it to this year's tournament and only qualified under controversial circumstances in a play-off with the Republic of Ireland and they could again find themselves going home early in 2010. A French team in transition should prepare themselves well if they are to come up tops in a groups where the other teams play better under the sun
Mexico
In the last 6 World Cups that they were involved in, Mexico have always progressed beyond the group stage of the competition. It would not be too far fetched for them to repeat that this year. It helps that the current Mexican team are a talented bunch of players who have so far impressed in a recent friendlies including the one against England even though they lost 3-1.
Uruguay
Uruguay will most likely give their all to progress from a very tough group by standards. In their last appearance, the South Americans did not go past the group stage. However, if you read their tournament history, you will find that after an early exit in a World Cup, they made up for it in the next tournament by progressing beyond the group stages. A curious trend, but a repeat is something the Uruguayans would no doubt welcome.
South Africa
When the privilege of hosting the World Cup was awarded to South Africa, many questioned their pedigree as a footballing nation. From what transpired between and now reinforced that doubt. They have not really impressed in warm-up matches and could struggle. Conspiracy theorist would claim that the hosts would no doubt qualify to maintain local interest in the competition. While it is true that all World Cup hosts have so far qualified to the knock-out stages before this, does it really mean that early exit for the hosts will never, ever happen? South Africa are probably the weakest of the four countries who make the group and would take a collosal effort from them to make it alive from Group A
Last words on Group A
A Mexican fiesta could toast the French.

Group B - Greece, South Korea, Nigeria, Argentina
Group B
Greece, South Korea, Nigeria, Argentina
Argentina
Argentina, despite their indifferent form, are stil considered favourites to considered favourites to become World Champions. Progress to the next round should not be a problem for Maradona's men, but, they may not last long after that. A stuttering qualification campaign in which they triumph not because of Maradona's tactical brilliance, but because of the quality of the individuals that make up the team. The last time Maradona was involved in the World Cup (USA 94), they were knocked out in the group stage and ironically, Nigeria and Greece were also in the same group.
Nigeria
Nigeria progressed to the first knock-out round in 1994 by winning their group which saw Argentina leave the tournament in disgrace. Since then, they have qualified for three straight World Cups since 1994 before missing out in 2006 They may not be the strongest of the African countries on show and were unimpressive in the
last African Nations Cup but with continental advantage they have a good chance of qualifying from this group
South Korea
By far, the best of Asia in this World Cup, South Korea however, have a bad World Cup record except for the 2002 edition when they were co-host. If the group was made up of another European country instead of Nigeria, South Korea's progression to the next round would almost be assured. A good performance against Nigeria & Greece could secure their progression
Greece
This is Greece's second World Cup since 1994, in which they finished bottom. It is highly unlikely that they surprise neutrals as they are up against opposition with so much advantage over them. If Greece avoid two straight defeats then only the third and final game will decide the top two teams
Last words on Group B
Continental advantage could be vital and it would be Messi for Argentina

Group C - Algeria, United States Slovenia, England
Group C
Algeria, United States Slovenia, England
England
The time is ripe for England to make an appearance in a major final. Hence qualification from a relatively easy group should set England on it's way is no reason for England not to qualify top of this group. However, they never made it past the quarterfinals stage of a World Cup held outside e (2002, 1986, 1970, 1962). This team also reached the quarterfinals in e (2002, 1986, 1970, 1962). This team also reached the quarterfinals in 2006 but this time indications are they are likely to finish at least one better in this tournament, as they normally do in subsequent World Cups, after a quarterfinal exit four years before. ournament, as they normally do in subsequent World Cups, after a erfinal exit four years before for them, England are unlikely to meet any heavyweights until after erfinals, IF they reach that far
Slovenia
Surprise qualifier to the tournament at the expense of Czech Republic. This is their second World Cup and their pedigree is still unknown. However nia could still have a few surprises up their sleeves and the non-European s would do well to be on their guard nia boast a few players that ply their trade in major European leagues and minorities, they have nothing to lose.
USA
World Cup 1990, the United States have never achieved back-to-back nation at the same stage of the tournament. Yes, the Red, White & Blue were eliminated at the group stage in Germany 2006. But, take a closer look at the United States, besides Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey, the United States do not possess all-round quality especially at the back. This was exposed in a recent friendly against the Czech Republic where they conceded 3 times in the second half, thus losing 2-4. cond half, thus losing 2-4. Likely to lose to England but decent results against Slovenia and Algeria could ntee qualification to
last 16 after early elimination in the 2006 edition. However, it would not be much of a surprise if they struggle against Slovenia.
Algeria
Algeria's two previous World Cup experience in the 80s and have never gone beyond oup stage. Least likely to advance though could get a decent result against nia or US
Last words on Group C
Dempsey could still make it home in time for Independence Day

Group D - Australia, Serbia, Ghana Germany
Group D
Australia, Serbia, Ghana Germany
Germany
3 time champions Germany are an assured choice to advance to the last 16. Since the last time they were crowned World Champions in 1990 (then West Germany) Germany have progressed to t least the quarterfinals of every World Cup. In 2006, as hosts, they finished ird and the last time they finished third (1970), Germany went on to win the ubsequent World Cup (1974). Most likely to meet a South American team in the uarterfinals should they advance
Ghana
Ghana, Serbia & Australia all have a good chance of making the next round. The frican team may struggle against European opponents so the best bet for them progress is a win over the Australians and hope that other results cancel each ther. This Ghanaian team could be the best they have had so far. This is only eir second appearance but still could be a real threat.
Serbia
The team that pipped France to automatic qualification have a decent shot of reaching the
quarterfinals, if they avoid England in the last 16. Another team that has qualified to beyond the group stages each time they've been knocked out in the group stages in previous tournament. Serbia needs to step up their game against Germany to progress while making sure they do not lose the remaining two matches.
Australia
Englands's weaker cousins. Australia are most likely to struggle against the 2 uropean & South African countries. They were denied a place in the uarterfinals amidst much controversional four years ago, but progress to the nock-out this time looks unlikely
Last words on Group D
Michael Essien would be cursing his luck but would soon have Nemanja Vidic for ompany

Group E - Japan, Cameroon, Netherlands, Denmark

Group E

Japan, Cameroon, Netherlands, Denmark

Netherlands
After Spain, the Netherlands boast a handful of talented individual players such as Arjen Robben (doubtful with slight hamstring problems), Robin van Persie, Rafael van der Vaart & Wesley Sneijder, to name a few. Naturally, they would be favourites to nail down a place in the last-16. In the modern era of the World Cup, Netherlands have not failed to progress. However, Cameroon or Denmark could finish above them if the Dutch get careless. A place in the quarter final or beyond beckons if they progress.

Denmark
The Danes have not had an impressive build-up to their opening match, losing to Australia and SOuth Africa recently in a friendly, albeit by a single goal. But, do not write off Denmark yet as in three previous World Cup appearances, they have made it at least to the last 16. But even if they do, it is unlikely that they progress further here in SOuth Africa, outside the European continent. The first match against Netherlands would be crucial. If they avoid a defeat, they could easily progress as group winners.

Cameroon
Samuel Eto'o may be the most recognized player in the Cameroon team, but he could also be their Archiles heel. In the build up to the World Cup, Eto'o have time and time again tried to remind us that Samuel Eto'o IS Cameroon. If so, then this African team would not go far in this tournament. Cameroon featured in 5 World Cups but have only progressed beyond the Group stages just once. With Japan the likely candidate to finish bottom, Cameroon would need a decent result against the Danes to progress.

Japan
Japan progressed from a relatively easy group when they were co-hosts in 2002 but did not make it past the group stages in 98 & 2006 when grouped with superior oppositions. With Netherlands, Denmark and Cameroon in the group, it is unlikely that they would make it to the last-16. The Japanese have not impressed in warm-up matches and the pressure is on them to perform. They could crack under the hot sun.

Last words on Group E

Group F - New Zealand, Paraguay. Slovakia, Italy

Group F
New Zealand, Paraguay. Slovakia, Italy

Italy
Oddly, as defending champions, the Azzuris have seldom progressed beyond the last-16. But an unlikely exit at the group stage would be incomprehensible. Though dumped in the 1st round of the recent Confederations Cup, the Italians have not failed to progress beyond the Group stages in eight consecutive World Cups.

Slovakia
As part of Czechoslovakia, they reached the quarterfinals of Italia 90. This will be their first tournament as an independent country. Topped their qualifying group and could prove to be a surprise challenge for group winners.

Paraguay
The third automatic qualifier in CONMEBOL could struggle in the competition. They boast a strong form at home but outside their comfort zone, wins are few and far. Interestingly, they have always finished in a lower rank than in previous World Cups, so very likely to go home early.

New Zealand
If their Confederations Cup appearance is used as a benchmark, little or nothing is expected from them. Finished bottom in all their Confederations Cup appearances so one suspects it will be the same story in their frist appreance in the World Cup. However, it is possible for them to pull of at least one good result in the tournament.

Last words on Group F
It's Italy again for the Slovaks

Group G - Korea DPR, Portugal, Ivory Coast, Brazil

Group G
Korea DPR, Portugal, Ivory Coast, Brazil

Brazil
Brazil is one country that have successfully progressed from the groups stages since 1970. The South Americans just love to win World Cups outside their own continent and are the only team to do so. It is no surprise that besides Spain, they are the hot favourites to win this edition.

Portugal
If they make it out of the Group stage, Portugal have a decent shot of making a semifinals appearance. Unfortunately, they have been knocked out of the group stage on both occasions they qualified for the World Cup held outside Europe. Cristiano Ronaldo may be one of the best players in the world after Lionel Messi, but like the Argentinians, Portugal do not have sufficient quality to compliment their talismatic captain. Progress would depend on how well they perform against Ivory Coast.

Ivory Coast
Ivory Coast made a dissapointing debut in their first World Cup in Germany 06. This time, they are again drawn in the Group of death. With Portugal likely to struggle, Ivory Coast could take advantage of playing in their own continent and progress ahead of the Portuguese. Would still be a strong contender even if captain Didier Drogba is ruled out of the group matches.

Korea DPR
This is only their second appearance in a World Cup final. Progressed to the quarterfinals in 1966 but is unlikely to go beyond the group stage this round. No match for Brazil and inexperience could bring them down. However, could prove to be a tough opponent for the Portuguese.

Last words on Group F
It's samba time in the Coast.

Group H - Honduras, Chile, Switzerland, Spain

Group H
Honduras, Chile, Switzerland, Spain

Spain
Spain will progress to quarter-finals, hands down. But may not even make it to the final game. The Spaniards have the tendency to climax too early in tournaments and lose steam as it progresses. Individual talents count for nothing if they struggle to find the right combination of players. Good news for them is that these are the same bunch of players that won the 2008 European title.

Chile
Unless the World Cup is hosted in Chile, the chances are, the South Americans would pack up after the group stages. They have never progressed beyond the group stages, except for when they were hosts, regardless in which continent the World Cup is staged. A three way fight for second between Switzerlands, Chile & Honduras would be interesting watch.

Switzerland
The Swiss have managed to at least progress beyond the group stage in their last two World Cup appearances. A decent result against Chile & Honduras would definitely see them through.

Honduras
In their second World Cup and this could just be deja vu for them. Drawn in the same group as Spain in 1982 and again in 2010. However, they may not be able to replicate their 1-1 draw result against Spain in 82 this time but lets not forget, Honduras gave United States & Mexico a run for their money in qualifers.

Last words on Group H
The rain is Spain falls mainly on falls mainly on the neutral plain.

A win over Fiorentina, who they've already beaten once this season, and who have lost the last 2 visits here, would enable 6th placed Napoli to maintain the pace with Palermo & Juventus
Italian Serie A 2009/10
Napoli vs Fiorentina

Stadio San Paolo (Napoli), 14 March 2010, Kick-off, 03:45 (GMT +8:00)

Napoli
Though unbeaten at home, Napoli have drawn more games than they have won in front of their own fans. It is no wonder that to many neutrals and bookmakers, Napoli & Fiorentina have almost equal chance of winning this match.

Tonight gives Napoli the best chance of getting a home win for their fans who have witnessed 4 straight draws at this stadium.

A win over Fiorentina, who they've already beaten once this season, and who have lost the last 2 visits here, would enable 6th placed Napoli to maintain the pace with Palermo & Juventus who are just above them in the league.

Fiorentina
Fiorentina themselves may be feeling the strain of participating in the Champions' League. After a strong start to the season, Fiorentina have been unconvincing of late and it would not be too much to say that it began the same time the CL's reached the tail-end of the group stages.

More misery were heaped on Fiorentina last weekend, losing at home to a Juventus side many see as has-been's this season.

Midweek could have take the sting out of Fiorentina's tail slightly.

Match Prediction
Based on experience, teams who play away from home after a mid-week European game, fail to produce the desired results in the weekend league matches. Not all struggle, but a significant few have failed - Man Utd at Everton, Everton at Spurs, Bayern at Nurnberg. Even Chelsea were lackluster playing at home against Man City after a trip to Inter. Few teams have made it count away from home after a midweek European match. Given Fiorentina's midweek adventure with Bayern Munich, Napoli should have a slight edge over them. A single goal win would be enough to please Napoli's faithfuls.

Rooney may start from the bench and if so, Milan should worry as Rooney's energy would trouble the aging Milan legs in the second half
European Champions' League (Knock-out, 2nd-Leg) 2009/10
Manchester United vs AC Milan

Old Trafford (Manchester), 11 March 2010, Kick-off, 03:45 (GMT +8:00)

Manchester United
There's just something about Man Utd that they always turn on the style after a bad performance in a game. Weekend's win over Wolves was United not at their best but it could always be that they had Milan on their minds when they strutted into the pitch.

Regardless of what the papers say, Wayne Rooney should be fit for this encounter but Milan's Pato may not be fully fit to face United. One suspects that Rooney may start from the bench and if so, Milan should worry as Rooney's energy would trouble the aging Milan legs in the second half.

United would not be going for a draw and Sir Alex knows that trying to defend for 90 minutes would be suicide. And when United are in attack mode, it normally ends with a win.

AC Milan
If Milan were to offer any fight in this tie, they would have to produce the magic in the first half when the energy levels of their players are high. Similar to what they did in the first leg.

But unfortunately they could not kill the tie then and allowed United to score 3 times in between their strikes. A similar scenario may occur tonight and United could yet provide the suckerpunch.

Unpredictable Milan have a lot to offer but more often than not, would dissapoint, as proven in the first leg. Hence, backing them would be a risk.

Match Prediction
United do not normally go through a spell of lackluster performances. They were not at their best last weekend and should dish out a serving of world class football here tonight. Europe has been their stage for the past few seasons. Any hopes of a comeback by Milan would be dashed by an early United goal and the match could well end in a 3-0 home win.

Man Utd to thrash Milan 3-0 @ 13 offered by 12Bet. Click this link now!

League leaders Bordeaux lead Ligue 1 on goal difference and have 2 games in hand over second placed Montpellier.
France Ligue 1 2009/10
Bordeaux vs Montpellier

Stade Jacques Chaban-Delmas (Bordeaux), 8 March 2010, Kick-off, 04:00 (GMT +8:00)

Bordeaux
League leaders Bordeaux lead Ligue 1 on goal difference and have 2 games in hand over second placed Montpellier. They have a fully fit squad to choose from going into this top-of-the-table encounter.

Laurent Blanc's side have only lost once at home all season and only two draws have blemished their last 5 home matches. In their 3 wins, they have scored 8 and have only conceded twice. Earlier this season they beat Montpellier 0-1 which kept them on top of the league.

Bordeaux's league at the top have been trimmed down by rivals Montpellier & Lyon in recent games and they cannot afford to drop points anymore at this stage of the season.

Montpellier
Montpellier exceeded everyone's expectations this season and pushing Bordeaux to the league title as far as they have now would be an achievement regardless of how the season ends.

If they are hoping to come away with a draw tonight, they may have to work extra hard given Bordeaux strong home form and their own wobbly away record. They succumbed to a 1-0 loss to Saint-Etienne in their last away match and were thrashed 4-0 by Monaco in mid-January.

Fortunately for them, they are practically injury-free except for long term absentee Nenad Dzodic. But the young Montpellier team may be overawed facing an experienced Bordeaux side.

Match Prediction
Hard to see Montpellier coming away with a point let alone a win tonight and Bordeaux should comfortably overcome the handicap.

Bordeaux have scored 4 goals in a match they have won 3 times this season at home while Montpellier have conceded 4 goals twice in 2 away loses. So, would not be a surprise if we see 4 goals scored by the home team tonight and Montpellier may be able to score a consolation. They were kept out in the last away match but given that they have not gone on a scoreless run on the road so far this season, they should be able to score one tonight. A 4-1 looks a likely scoreline.

Bordeaux to beat Montpellier 4-1 @ 30 offered by 12Bet. Click this link now!

Hannover are 2nd from bottom and were thrashed 4-1 last week by Borussia Dortmund
German Bundesliga 2009/10
Hannover 96 vs VfL Wolfsburg

AWD Arena (Hannover), 28 February 2010, Kick-off, 22:30 (GMT +8:00)

Hannover
Hannover are 2nd from bottom and were thrashed 4-1 last week by Borussia Dortmund. In their last match, Hannover were whipped 1-5 by Werder Bremen and things are not looking good for them at all.

Hannover are missing a few defensive players but have all their strikers fit and available. Last season, at this venue, the home team were thrashed 0-5 by Wolfsburg. This ground itself has see 2-2 draws twice in the space of 8 months in 2007 and in 2005 Wolfsburg again scored 4 in another 2-4 win. This season in the last 5:-

Hannover at home:-
v Leverkusen (0 goals)
v Bochum (5)
v Hertha BSC (3)
v Nurnberg (4)
v Bremen (6)

Wolfsburg
Earlier this season, Wolfsburg dished out a 4-2 victory over Hannover but could find it a bit harder to come out with all 3 points tonight given their mid-week European match encounter with Villareal. Fatigue may be a factor.

What is for certain however, is that they are not a team that is facing problems scoring goals. They have however, find defending their goals harder than scoring goals. Because of this they are sitting at 12th position in the league, not the kind of positions champions should find themselves in.

Wolfburg away:-
v Frankfurt (4)
v Stuttgart (4)
v Hamburg (2)
v Leverkusen (3)
v Villarreal (4)

Match Prediction
While the match may swing either way, the total goals scored in this match should be more than 3 goals. Given their last few encounters at this stadium which have seen a total of 5, 4, 4 & 6 goals in the last 4 encounters here, it would not be an exageration to say that the fans in Hannover will be witnessing at least four goals tonight in a match that possibly end in a 2-2 draw.

Nene (13) and Chu Yong Park (8) have been banging in the goals for Monaco this season
French Ligue 1 2009/10
Monaco vs Boulogne

Stade Louis II (Monaco), 28 February 2010, Kick-off, 02:00 (GMT +8:00)

Monaco
Monaco know they would waste a golden chance to grab 3 points at home should they failt to dispose of Boulogne here at home.

A comfortable win over bottom club Boulogne should be the order of the day. 23 points separate the two clubs and Monaco are sitting pretty at 7th place, just 7 points off 4th place. Although they were rudely shocked in their last home match, but the 1-2 loss to Marseille should not dampen their spirit.

Prior to that loss, Monaco were unbeaten in 5 matches here, including a 4-0 whitewash of 2nd placed Montpellier.

Boulogne
Boulogne have lost their last away match at 3rd placed Lille and have only scored 3 in 5 games.

They welcome back Gregory Thil after a long lay-off and mthis should solve their attacking problems. But they are up against a Monaco side who are unbeaten at home in 2010.

Though the visitors held mighty Bordeaux at the leader's own den in the last game of January, they have lost to Lille & Lyon on the road and they would have to be at their best to stop MOnaco from doing the double over them this season.

Match Prediction
Monaco would look to maintain their near perfect record at home this season and is defintely the stronger side. While Boulogne may be despearte for points but their inability to create and finish off chances may play to their downfall this season. A 2 - 0 win tonight should be more than enough for the host.

Monaco to beat Boulogne 2-0 @ 6 offered by 12Bet. Click this link now!

The form of Abdul Kader Keita, the goalscorer in the first leg, is key for a Galatasaray win.
Europa League (Knock-out, 2nd-Leg) 2009/10
Galatasaray vs Atletico Madrid

Ali Sami Yen Stadyumu (İstanbul), 26 February 2010, Kick-off, 02:00 (GMT +8:00)

Galatasaray
Galatasaray were fortunate to come back to Turkey with a draw and now hold the advantage of an away goal. On top of that, the Turkish club are also unbeaten at Istanbul.

Galatasaray drew 1-1 at Besiktas at the weekend but it should not be a major concern as they thumped Besiktas 3-0 at this venue last September. Given that they drew 1-1 with Atletico in the first leg, is it possible to see the same reverse 3-0 scoreline tonight as well?

The home team thumped Ankaraspor 3-0 in their last home match and in Europe this season, they won all but one match at home. They have also managed to keep 4 clean sheets in 6 home Europa League matches.

However, Frank Rijkaard may miss the services of key duo Arda Turan and Sabri Sarioglu. Rijkaard is not unfamiliar with Atletico, given his time as head coach of Barcelona and it was no wonder that he managed outwit the Spaniards in the first leg and steal a draw. That could ultimately play to the advantage of the TUrkish side tonight.

Abdul Kader Keita, the goalscorer in the first leg is available for this match and would be focal point of any Galatasaray attack. Atletico would do well to keep him quiet, which is unlikely.

Atletico Madrid
Atletico are paying the price for failing to translate their dominance in the first-leg into goals.

Unfortunately for them, they are set to miss the services of goalkeeper David De Rea tonight and even with the riches in attacking talents, Atletico have so often been let down by their defence. In Europe this season, they lost all but one of their away matches in the group stage of the Champions' League and only managed a 1-1 draw at minnows APOEL, which also provided them with their first away goal.

Atletico flattered to deceive in beating Barcelona 2-1 at home a fortnight ago and have not won their following two matches, losing 1-0 at Almeria last weekend. Their away woes are likely to be compounded by Galatasaray tonight.

Match Prediction
Galatasaray are a team on form at home and do not waste their 12th man advantage. It looks to be a mismatch tonight as Atletico are not having the best of form and this has been the story of their season so far. Despite the presence of Diego Forlan, Sergio Aguero & Jose Reyes, Atletico seem to always make it hard for themselves to win matches. Galatasaray on the other hand have made scoring three or more goals at home a habit and tonight may see 3 more for them. Atletico could still score tonight and a 3-2 win for Galatasaray could be a possibility.

Sly Jose Mourinho has so often deflected attention from his team towards himself, in order release some

pressure off his charges
European Champions' League (Knock-out, 1st-Leg) 2009/10
Internazionale Milan vs Chelsea

San Siro (Milan), 25 February 2010, Kick-off, 03:45 (GMT +8:00)

Internazionale Milan
We are all too familiar with Jose Mourinho's constant outbursts to almost everyone in Italy at every press conference. But this smoke screen is no more than a diversion by the coach to deflect all pressure off his team, and this strategy have proved very effective during his tenure at Chelsea.

It is indeed a much needed smoke screen at the wake of the 0-0 draw with Sampdoria at home last Saturday, a match that was widely expected to end in favor of the hosts. Not a very encouraging result to come back off coming into this match against favourites Chelsea. Last weekends scoreless draw was the first time since Sept 2009 that Inter have failed to score at home in all competitions and the first time since November 2008 that they have failed to score in a league match here. Inter are more than capable of scoring past Petr Cech tonight but the question is, can they keep out Didier Drogba & Nicolas Anelka?

The last team that scored at San Siro was in a Coppa Italia match against Juventus that Inter won 2-1. This season in the Champions' League, the most they have scored in a single game here is 2 goals while the most they have conceded is also 2, which was also the only time they conceded in three matches in the Champions' League group stage (2-2 vs Dynamo Kyiv).

Chelsea
Chelsea have not won against Italian oppositions in the Champions' in two attempts since they beat Lazio 0-4 in 2003.

They drew 2-2 with Juventus in the same stage of the competition last season but lost 3-1 to Roma during the group stage. In fact, their Italian adventure have yielded a total of 4 goals in each of the 3 visits to Italian soil. In a league where goals are a commodity, Chelsea's visit to Itlay would definitely be a welcome for Italian fans.

The Londeners were made to work hard for the win away at relegation candidates Wolverhampton Wanderers before emerging 0-2 victors. Coach Carlo Ancelotti have been made to make do with injuries to Michael Essien, who has been injured since the opening match of the African Nations' Cup. Keeping Inter out would definitely pose a problem for the visitors with injuries to Ashley Cole & Jose Bosingwa. With defensive midfielder out and the flanks potentially exposed to Inter's attack, it would be a surprise if they can managed a clean sheet.

Match Prediction
The draw for Inter over the weekend should not be seen as a sign of weakness, but rather an indication that they had their eyes on a bigger prize with Chelsea up next. The team should be mentally prepared and with Mourinho deflecting all the focus on himself since the weekend, his players are quietly going about their business to prepare for tonight's clash. However, although unbeaten at home this season, Inter have drawn twice here already. Chelsea themselves are unbeaten on the road in this competition this season, but APOEL, Athletico Madrid & Porto were hardly tough oppositions. Another Italian embarrassment is unlikely to repeat tonight after Man Utd's heroics against AC Milan here last week, as Inter are a more cohesive team with more energy compared to their City rivals. Do not expect entertaining football as Mourinho & Ancelotti would try to outwit each other in a very tactical game that would possibly end in a stalemate. Both teams have posted 2-2 draws this season in the group stage and another similar scoreline may be a posibility.

Mainz will be looking to make it 3 wins in a row at home against Bochum with Andreas Ivanschitz back in action
German Bundesliga 2009/10
FSV Mainz 05 vs VfL Bochum

Stadion am Bruchweg (Mainz), 20 February 2010, Kick-off, 22:30 (GMT +8:00)

FSV Mainz 05
Mainz have not lost in 5 matches against Bochum and should be confident of doing the double over the visitors tonight.

The home team have not lost at home this season and after two straight draws at home, the posted back-to-back wins and will be looking to make it 3 wins in a row at home against an oppostion 6 points below them. Good news for the Mainz camp is that free-scoring midfielder Andreas Ivanschitz is available for selection. It would be a welcome back considering that the goals have dried up since November, though they have not been kept out at home, they have only managed to score one goal in every league home match since November.

Mainz beat Bochum 2-3 away and would do well to post another win against a Bochum side who have pulled of a string of good results on the road since November.

VfL Bochum
Bochum are unbeaten on the road since posting only a single win in 6 matches prior to that.

But it would be a tougher assignment tonight with a few midfield players out injured (Mimoun Azaouagh, Kevin Vogt and Milos Maric). All three are set to miss out. 5 loses to the host in previous outing may be a cause for concern for the team, but would be bouyed by a good string of result in recent weeks. However, it may not be as easy as it seems because Mainz themselves are on form as well.

Match Prediction
With home ground advantage, Mainz are defintely in pole position to continue with their unbeaten form at home. They may struggle with goals, but it is hard not to see them get a couple of goals. The home team could even probably manage a clean sheet in the process. A 2-0 win for the home team should not be too far off.

Hoffenheim are missing the creativity of Franco Zuculini but still have Bosnian Vedad Ibisevic to turn to for goals
German Bundesliga 2009/10
Hoffenheim vs Borussia M'gladbach

Rhein-Neckar-Arena (Sinsheim), 20 February 2010, Kick-off, 03:30 (GMT +8:00)

Hoffenheim
All the good work early this season may not be worth anything if Hoffenheim continue with their current slump. They are given a tough assignment tonight against an unpredictable M'gladbach.

They can take comfort in the fact that two of their three home loses came at the hands of Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen, two team sitting high up in the league. However, encouragement came in the form of a recent home 2-1 win over strugglers Hannover 96. Unfortunately, they are facing some sort of mini selection crisis as they have a few regular starters unavailable due to injury or suspension, including striker Chinedu Obasi. However, topscorer Vedad Ibisevic is available and will lead the attack for Hoffenheim.

A 2-4 away win over the same opposition in September should be encouragement for the home team in order to not drop the quality of their play. Tonight will be more of 3-points for them to lose and given their recent dip in form, they would be definitely be out to get a result and not let the 3 points slip from their grasp.

Borussia M'gladbach
M'gladbach have not won an away match since November and have lost three since.

They were made to sweat by Nurnberg last week at home and may find an away match against Hoffenheim a tougher assignment. The visitors may be a bit intimidated by the hosts after being beaten 2-4 at home earlier in the season and may just take a too cautious approach that could probably lead to their downfall. A concern for coach Michael Frontzeck is that his strikers have failed to find the net in two attempts on the road which cost them the match at Mainz. In addition, it does not help their confidence in knwoing that this season they have lost to bottom clubs Nurnberg and Freiburg as well as a 0-0 draw with the club in last place, Hertha BCS.

However, he would be well aware that Hoffenheim have conceded almost more than half of their home tally of goals against in the last 5 matches so he knows that his team are in a shout for at least a goal.

Match Prediction
The home team would definitely go on the offensive right from the start and do not expect any shortage of goals either especially from Hoffenheim. Hoffeinheim have only been kept out twice this season at home so the probability of them scoring goals is definitely good. M'gladbach may struggle though especially with the knowledge that this arena is not an easy place for visiting teams and they have lost to Hoffenheim in two occasions here. The advantage is still with Hoffenheim as it would not be long before they hit their stride again and given their last home win against Hannover 96, it would not be much of a surprise if they win this. A 3-2 win for the home team looks a likely possibility.
