European Champions' League (Knock-out, 2nd-Leg) 2009/10
Manchester United vs AC Milan
Old Trafford (Manchester), 11 March 2010, Kick-off, 03:45 (GMT +8:00)
Manchester United
There's just something about Man Utd that they always turn on the style after a bad performance in a game. Weekend's win over Wolves was United not at their best but it could always be that they had Milan on their minds when they strutted into the pitch.
Regardless of what the papers say, Wayne Rooney should be fit for this encounter but Milan's Pato may not be fully fit to face United. One suspects that Rooney may start from the bench and if so, Milan should worry as Rooney's energy would trouble the aging Milan legs in the second half.
United would not be going for a draw and Sir Alex knows that trying to defend for 90 minutes would be suicide. And when United are in attack mode, it normally ends with a win.
AC Milan
If Milan were to offer any fight in this tie, they would have to produce the magic in the first half when the energy levels of their players are high. Similar to what they did in the first leg.
But unfortunately they could not kill the tie then and allowed United to score 3 times in between their strikes. A similar scenario may occur tonight and United could yet provide the suckerpunch.
Unpredictable Milan have a lot to offer but more often than not, would dissapoint, as proven in the first leg. Hence, backing them would be a risk.
Match Prediction
United do not normally go through a spell of lackluster performances. They were not at their best last weekend and should dish out a serving of world class football here tonight. Europe has been their stage for the past few seasons. Any hopes of a comeback by Milan would be dashed by an early United goal and the match could well end in a 3-0 home win.
